Established as a branch of the British Red Cross on 28th January 1958 and recognized as a national Society on 7th March, 1983.
On 28th September 1981 a declaration of succession to the Geneva Conventions of 1949 was signed with Protocols I and II additional to the Geneva Conventions acceded to on 25th April 1996.
Recognized by the International Committee of the Red Cross on 15th March 1989 and by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies on 21st October 1989.
The general objective of the Dominica Red Cross is to prevent and alleviate suffering with complete impartiality, making no discrimination as to nationality, race, sex, religious belief, class or political options.

The Governing Board has full responsibility for the Dominica Red Cross Society (DRCS) policies and program. The Board is composed of distinguished scholars and prominent individuals from the private and public sectors in Dominica. The Governing Board meets on a regular basis to review and evaluate the societies`activities and makes all decisions for its program.
